Story
The main objective of A2’s refit in Vilanova was to upgrade the generator to improve emissions and bring it up to modern standards. The team removed the generators through a hull opening underwater, as this method was the most efficient and had the least impact on the vessel's interior and the crew living onboard. Over the course of 60 days, they disassembled the two old generators with the help of a custom lifting frame, removed a section of the hull to lower them out of the vessel, modified the generator beds to accommodate the additional height gained from the Diesel particulate filter, disassembled the new generators, and then repeated the process in reverse.
The vessel was relaunched, and the new generators sets were subsequently load bank tested and approved by Lloyd’s 90 days after the initial haul-out. In addition to the generator upgrade, some minor preseason works were also carried out.
